Low Back Pain Tips Ames Iowa Chiropractor

Struggling with low back pain?

Low back pain is, unfortunately, a very common part of people’s lives, but you shouldn’t ignore it, and you don’t have to suffer from low back pain. Chiropractic is a great treatment for low back pain and can even prevent low back pain from coming back or starting in the first place. Live Aligned Chiropractic has seen many cases of low back pain and had great success treating it, but we also wanted to give you some things that you can do for yourself so we have put together a short list of things to try!

Lifting, stretching, and moving!

Our bodies were made to move but make sure that you are doing those movements with intention. If you do a lot of lifting make sure to lift with your knees while keeping your back straight. This allows you to put less stress on your low back and lessen your chance of injury. If you have to twist at all while lifting, make sure to move your feet to change your direction, and don’t twist at your waist.

Stretching your whole body is another great thing to add to your daily routine to keep your body moving and prevent pain. Do a quick 5-minute yoga routine to improve your flexibility, loosen up your muscles, and get more movement through your spine. People often think that when starting to exercise more they need to run miles or lift very heavy weights. While both of these things are for some people, getting any movement in your body is good, and stretching is a great start to exercising more!

Keep your body moving! If you have a job where you are seated at a desk most of the day you can get stiff from this. Try getting up and taking a short walk around the office once an hour, or get a smaller water bottle so you have to leave your desk more often to fill it up (bonus, you might even start drinking more water with this!) While you are at your desk try to focus on your posture, keep your feet on the ground with your legs uncrossed, your back neutral, your shoulders pulled back, and your head looking straight ahead! If you have the opportunity to get a standing desk this may also help get you to change positions throughout the day. If you do use a standing desk, make sure to keep using good posture!
