I don’t want a chiropractor to crack my body, can they still help me?
Chiropractic videos on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok have made chiropractic adjustments seem much more intense than they usually are. The videos usually are accompanied by loud sounds popping in people’s bodies. This sound can happen but is sometimes exaggerated in the videos to be louder to get more views.
Not all chiropractic has to look like what you see and hear in those videos. There are a ton of different types of adjustments out there! Some involve no popping at all. If you are curious about a softer technique, you should reach out to your chiropractor and ask if they do more gentle chiropractic techniques. Some techniques involve moving drop pieces on tables, others use tools to put quick gentle forces into your spine, and others are more relaxation-based and use your breathing to perform adjustments. If you let your chiropractor know you are interested in this when you are first seen, most doctors will talk about the techniques that they do and what they believe is best for your body. Please remember at the end of the day this is your health and your body and you never have to agree to anything that makes you uncomfortable.
If you are someone who wants those cracking sounds keep in mind that those videos are sometimes altered and every person’s body is different. You might get some fun sounds but that is never the goal of the chiropractor. Getting movement into restricted joints and allowing your nervous system to function at its best is the main goal to help you feel your best!
